- Marijuana is derived from the Cannabis plant
The main active ingredient in cannabis — the part that gives the “high” feeling — is called THC, which stands for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. THC acts on specific molecules in the body known as cannabinoid receptors, which are mostly found in the brain. Different cannabis products have different levels of THC.
The term “cannabis” can also refer to any drug that is derived from the plant, including the three major types: Marijuana, hashish and hash oil.
- Marijuana has hundreds of different strains
Marijuana strains can be pure or hybrid varieties, usually derived from the two major species of cannabis: indica and sativa. Different strains have been bred to intensify certain characteristics of cannabis. Indica strains have certain attributes and effects and so do Sativa strains. You can somewhat customize your high in order to reach your desired effects.
- Marijuana has physical and psychological effects
The effects of marijuana begin within a few minutes of you inhaling it and can last a few hours. THC is absorbed more slowly when it’s taken as a food or liquid and the effects take longer to be felt but the effects are much stronger.
Depending on the type of strain you choose and the form it comes in the effects will vary. If you eat a weed brownie that contains 10mg of THC then you’re going to couch locked for hours. If you smoke a light Sativa haze then you’re going to be able to function normally during the daytime. Make sure you do your research so as to always have a positive time with your new best friend, the Cannabis plant.
